Best engine for a mini-RV?

I'd actually rather get a Chevy LS instead of a Northstar. About low displacement (which is quite relative regarding engines with more than 4 cylinders), I'd rather get a V6 instead of a V8 due to the lesser amount of internal frictions. Also, a Vortec 4300 might have a wider range of aftermarket improvements (many interchangeable with the original Chevy 350cu.in. small-block V8) than the Northstar
