Best mileage yet

Hey all, newbie here (though I have been reading for a while).

I decided about 100 miles into my tank of gas that I should try some pulse and glide technique (engine on), while in the city.
I did so, and not even all the time, but managed to achieve a mileage of 37.25mpg, which is the best I have ever had. I will continue to do this next fill up and see what happens.

My driving generally includes a mixture of traffic, city, and highway (50-65mph).

I'm excited to see what happens if I try this through the entire tank of gas!

Nice. It's amazing how easy some gas saving techniques are. I never realized how much I was throwing away

Thats how I feel. A simple change in technique can have surprisingly good results.
So far, I'm not sure I'll beat that record on this tank, I've dealt with a lot of traffic so far...

It's great encouragement to set a goal and once you get it set another one. It's a great feeling when you watch a commercial on tv with a new car boasting 40 mpg highway and think to yourself " I'd be ashamed of my car if it only got 40"

I was thinking about that today when I saw a commercial for the new Hybrid Civic, gets 44mpg...

I drove my Swift to Stockton today & got over 48 mpg (no mods). But that's a net elevation loss of over 4000 ft., meaning that on average, the trip was "downhill".

However, on the return trip (re-gaining that same 4000+ ft.) the ScanGauge was reading 45.5 when I pulled into my driveway.

So when I see ads for new cars (mucho money) touting 44 MPG or whatever, I say, "is that all?"

Well sure enough, this tank I only achieved 33.5mpg. A lot of city driving and traffic was the cause, I believe. Oh well, we'll try again and see what happens in a few days (when I won't have so much traffic to drive in)
