Best oil ever
 

Hi everyone I own 2 civic vx, and always read about how everyone likes 0-20w oil. My Cars only run one type of oil for all 4 Cars and that's 5w40 syn rottela t6 by shell. You can buy it at wall mart anyways that's the best oil out there and I hope others here will try it out. This oil I belive will make my motor last till 1 million miles easy. If you never heard about this oil Google it and I been using this oil for the last 5 years with Excellent results. I use it mostly because of my race car but since it's proven so great on it I use it on all my cars.

I dont make any money from shell or Wal-Mart. I dont care what oil you use in your car. Just wanting to let everyone know my experience and they can make their own decisions. That's why I said you can google the oil and read about all the great reviews in all the different forum's and many people have done independent testing. I know the eco crowd likes the light oils for mpgs , but as a technician I would not use it on my cars all 90s modle and with higher mileage. If it sounds like a sales pitch then great go buy it and try it.

have you torn down the engine and measured the wear on the parts?
Did you measure the parts prior to running the engine?
how are you determining the viability of your claim?

Platinum Pennzoil Full Synthetic Motor Oil – With its proprietary PurePlus™ formula, Pennzoil Platinum synthetic motor oils convert natural gas into a mixture that creates cleaner pistons and a smoother functioning engine is their claim. So, they at least share what Base Stocks they use, Group III, not Group IV, so can claim “synthetic” but also focus a lot on additive technology. They buy their base stocks so are benders so not sure why they claim they do it?

Royal Purple Synthetic Motor Oil – Very interesting as they market both API Performance products and others that should only be used after your car/engine warranty has expired. Why for the latter? Because they increase the antiwear additive content above the requirement for control of exhaust emissions when new! So, if you have an older car and don’t mind maybe increasing your emissions then go for the Fully Synthetic Base Oil options as you’ll still get all the other benefits.

Makes the claim of being the first to market Full Synthetic Engine Oil. Not sure, but still believe they buy all their Base Stocks and then blend with purchased additives? So, if they utilise Group IV PAO plus maybe some Group V in their products, gotta be a great oil with their experience!

Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil – Mobil is the only oil company and brand that I know that has been involved in the research, development, manufacture and marketing of synthetic base stock and synthetic oils since the 1960’s to this day. They actually make all the different types of base stocks covering Group I, II, III, IV & V from Conventional Mineral to Synthetic. I believe the Mobil 1 family is the best synthetic oil as this is what Mobil have been doing for over 40 years – sort of “homegrown” synthetic engine oil! Many other brands are companies that buy base oils and technology and then resell!

Also, did you know that PAO’s from Mobil are so clean that they can be classified as Technical White Oil for Incidental Food Contact with both Kosher and Halal approvals?

I read something similar about Mobile One some years ago, and have been using Mobile One 0w20 ever since.

Yeah, I don't believe in a "best" oil. Especially calling a single weight the best. Most engines will have some parts that like a certain weight, and other parts that prefer a different weight.

Then there's the whole additive deal, which is a sad story these days. I generally run my engine on 0w-20, for fuel economy and cold starts (5w-20/5w-30) is specified. But my little "opinion" is run something thin, and synthetic, and toop it off with a little blue bottle of STP oil stabilizer. It's thicker than I'd like, although I've had no measurable side effect... but the STP is NOT for an odd2.. it's full of zinc and is good for the engine and bad for the cat.

You gotta pick the lesser evil with oils. But as long as you change it and maintain your car, your average ford or Honda will totally do 500k on cheap oil and filters without new parts. I like my engine perfect, but I honestly don't think paying for synthetics is cost effective, unless you don't do your own repairs, AND drive an expensive car.
Over 300k miles, that's 100 oil changes. $20 for conventional, $40 synthetic at fit prices. Over 300k, conventional oil could save you $2,000.

I drive an escort, so an engine failure costs me like 200 bucks plus new gaskets lol

I think it's pretty clear that guy gets his retirement checks from Mobile Oil... if not his non-retirement checks
I personally by whatever semi-synthetic is on sale. Most recently $25 for 5 quarts of Valvoline high mileage semi-syn and a Wix filter. Good to go.

^ I can consistently get 5 quarts of Mobile One 0w20 at WalMart for $25, and that's good for just shy of two oil changes in my car.
