Best tank so far on Bio-Diesel

And Very possibly best ever.

My Typical fill up is 800~850 miles; I just crossed 1/3 tank remaining marker with just over 900 miles traveled so far!

My record on Petro- Diesel is 1272 between trips to the pump I really want to beat it.

What's changed? I've been pushing my hypermiling very very hard. No idle at stop lights, a little pulse and glide, but mostly keeping speeds around 40 mph, timing lights, and taking fe very seriously. Can I keep this up? No; but I want a record tank this year, and I want it on Bio- Diesel.

Should I refuel (in a few weeks) with petro-Diesel so that I can get an accurate fill; OR should I re-fuel with Bio and go for another record tank on Bio>

How many miles did it take to make it to the first bar? When did you crossed the half mark? Since you vent, 1/3 indicated isn't really 1/3 of what you started with.

1/3 indicated and more than 300 miles to go, that's a tough call. I'd be afraid to run her dry.

First bar as in "full"? Around 200 miles

Half "indicated" was about 600 miles

I'm definitely afraid to run it dry.

If I'm real close I may let it run dry.

When it gets close I'll definitely put a fuel can in the hatch along with the mighty vac.

On my record tank I popped the hood at refuel and there was more air than fuel in the clear hose.

So you made roughly 400 miles on the first indicated half. If you continue like that I would estimate the fuel light to come out between 1050 and 1100 miles, at which point you'll have a tad less than 2 gallons remaining. If you make it, it's gonna be close.

No doubt it's going to be close;
I'm going to try and step it up just a little bit more.

Well guys I'm sorry to say that I chickened out and filled up early; I was ging to be taking several trip which would be rushed (no time to run out of fuel) with passengers and decided it was better to just fill up the tank.
BUT the results still are not all that bad

I wish my van would do half of that... I'm seriously thinking about ditching the turbo'd 1.8/2.0 and seeing if I can import a diesel from Europe, or just swapping it to a small TD "implement motor"

Great job on a 78MPG tank!

Make a garage entry for your vehicle... and don't mod the car any more, until you start modding your driving habits... the most efficient car in the world can still be a hog when an inefficient driver gets behind the wheel.

Don't get disheartened after one or two tanks, often, the improvements are small, and don't get noticed right away. Check the 100+ Hypermiling tips link under the ecomodder logo on the top of the page, and mod yourself silly!

What's the expansion tank trick? I thought that was only on B5.5?

Tank was filled up all the way (couldn't fit any more). I'm not 100% sure it was all the way full on Bio . .. . So I MAY have gotten better MPG than indicated . . . .
