Best tank so far this year!

I just squeezed out 35.8mpg this weekend-- most of my last tank was driving to the suburbs of Toronto and back on Friday (296 miles round-trip-- it was for a seminar for work). This included spending an hour in stop'n'go rush hour traffic on the way home, too. Not too shabby.

Now that the threat of snow is minimal, I need to reapply the coroplast under my front bumper. I think I'm going to switch from christmas trees to hollow wall anchors as fasteners.

In other news, I should have a Rostra cruise control system arriving tomorrow. Hopefully, the weather will turn a little nicer by the weekend, so I can get it in. I find that long drives (over an hour at a stretch) are tough-- I just don't have the stamina to be steady enough to get really great mpg. I regularly managed in the high 30s last summer-- setting cruise to 65 on the I-90 could probably get me 40+.

whokilledthejams,

Was this record tank on the QEW to Toronto? You gotta go 80 mph to not get run over on that crazy highway!

Good job bro!

Yes, 2/3 of this last tank was on the QEW and 403. When traffic isn't backed up, everyone there drives way too fast. Early in the morning, it wasn't bad-- there wasn't any traffic (and 6am is a great time to cross the Peace Bridge), so I could not-speed pretty effectively.

I probably could have done better, mpg-wise, if I had to drive that same distance anywhere else, really. All things considered, I didn't do too badly.

I went to college and live in Buffalo for 9 years and took quite a few trips to Toronto on the QEW. I wasn't familiar with hypermiling at that time but can only imagine trying to do it on the QEW...crazy!
