Better aerodynamics, Less weight, More Style

Sometimes it's the little things that count right? I just took all the badges off my neon, Three "DODGE" signs & one "NEON" sign... Ok, the "less weight" is almost the equivalent to taking 1 cd out of my car but whatever~~ btw.... Can acetone mess up anything on my car to make me go 1mpg less? Look at my fuel log, ever since I used it~~and got crap results~~all logs after that have been about 1mpg less?

Have you thought about reinstalling the letters to spell out wacky things, like "ODD EGG" or "ONE GONE" ? That would be fun.

I doubt that acetone did any damage...but how much did you put in?

So, you added it to your gas? Or you used it to remove the adhesive left behind by the badges?

I've added Acetone, Xylene, Toluene, Methyl Ethyl Ketone, and several other "bad" things to my engine before, because they were free and I knew I'd need gas before I could afford it again... none of them did anything to my MPGs, at least that I could ever tell from tank to tank measurements...

The Acetone may have (possibly) damaged a seal or something in your fuel system, so you may be leaking slight amounts of fuel, not enough to really know it.

You could make the following words from these letters:
DDDDEEGGOON (all you have left that are still fully intact)

THREE LETTERS
DOG, DON, DOE, DEN, DEE, EGO, EON, GOO, GOD, ODE, ONE, NOG, NOD, NOE

FOUR LETTERS
DONE, DOON, DEED, EGON, GOON, GONE, GOOD, NODE, NEON

FIVE LETTERS OR MORE
DODGE (obviously), EGGED

If I find more, I'll edit. LOL.

Back when I first joined this forum, I was working for a Union contracting company... I needed gas one day, and all I had was a 5 gallon can of Xylol (Xylene) in the trunk of my Civic.

On an empty tank, (Car wouldn't start again), I poured in about 2 gallons of the Xylol straight, so I could get into town to put gas in... about 35 miles from where I was, to a gas station I knew was still open.

I made it, and after putting 2 gallons of Xylol into an empty 12 gallon tank, and traveling 35 miles, it only took 10.75 or so gallons of gas to fillerup, which means I went about 35 miles on .75 gallons of Xylol, for a total MPG(x) of 46.4, slightly higher than normal, but I topped that tank off, and it wasn't an exact 2 gallon measurement of Xylol... so that can't be taken as gospel.

What I would guess happened, is that with the wicked timing advance that I had, I got more low-end torque from the Xylol's 114 Octane rating, which made it so that I could stay in higher gears for longer.

CHRIST, so you think there is no way the acetone damaged the car? Think I have just been doing something different that cost me 1mpg?

I don't believe so, I can't imagine why that little would have done anything at all, (especially increase gas mileage... that stuff doesn't work, BTW), but again, I can't guarantee anything.

Like I said, the worst thing it would have done (Acetone is a great solvent) is destroy a seal somewhere that might be causing a vapor leak or even a mild liquid leak. Depending on how long it takes you to burn a tank, or how long between fill ups, you might see 1 mippig difference from any of those things.

A one MPG difference between a few tanks is well within the norm. I fill up at the exact same pump for every tank, always stop at the first click, and my tanks aren't even as close as yours. Your one MPG could be due to weather conditions, tire pressures, or who knows what. Carry on, friend!
