Today's Volvo XC40 P8 AWD Recharge ( R-design ) weighs 2159-kg, exceeding the mass of the largest 2015 Volvo XC90 SUV, by 22-kg.
Today's Recharge is ' such a small vehicle' ( MOTOR TREND ), but has ' Strong regenerative braking.' ( MOTOR TREND ).
It's very likely that the Geely/Volvo weight increase was driven as a hedge against more stringent future environmental regulations/ certification, against the backdrop of the Paris Climate Accord.
