So if my CO2 emissions double while riding my bike but my speed is 10x my walking pace...
Don't forget the surcharge on Nikes. Is dopey over there calling it the "Gatorade Guzzler Tax?"

Everyone seems to be missing the real problem here, which is that unless the biker and the driver are eating food synthesized from hydrocarbons, they aren't increasing net CO2. Remember that carbon cycle you (should have, if you were paying attention) learned about back in high school? Carbon cycle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The carbon just goes round & round, powered by the sun. With no fossil fuel burning, it'd stay the same from year to year.
Short term, of course. Ice age cycles are another thing, but they're cycles. Fossil fuel burning is open-ended.

razor02097, it seems like the tax being proposed is a 5% sales tax increase whenever anyone buys a bicycle. Not sure if that extends to bicycle related accessories as well (tires, pedals, clothing). Or if it might pertain to any goods sold in a cycling store, regardless of their exclusive application to riding (they sell dvds of people races, and protein bars, various candies, hydration packs, etc).

In some cases I would say their claims are correct, depending on how it is mounted and where the light is pointed. I have seen some lights on bikes that are more obnoxious than poorly implemented HIDs

I am no longer surprised by the stupid things politicians say, nor by the stupidity of the voters who elect them. Think of how dumb the average person is, then realize that about half of them are even dumber than that.

There is an old saying, which I think we can extend
Them as can, do.
Them as can't, teach.
Them as have no f'in clue, rule.
Why isn't there a waste of space politician tax - oh, hang on...
