Building a heavy duty cabinet, need advice.

I'd like to put something together on rollers to hold ~500-1000lbs of engine blocks and transmissions. I have a nice 2-3" 4x8 wood piece (old sign) to use as the base, but does anyone have any advice on how to build the supporting structure w/ 2x4s and the like? Nothing fancy, just heavy duty w/ two levels.

If you use 2x4s make the joints using framing brackets and run carriage bolts all of the way through the wood. You can find them in the aisle with hinges and locks in most hardware stores.

A standard kitchen table with 4 legs can often hold nearly 500 pounds if you are not moving it around much, a cube like frame made out of 2x4's with a ply wood top should be strong enough, while working on the suspension on my car I've set the corner of my Honda on a ply wood platform with caster wheels on it and rolled it around with out any noticeable stress on the wood or plastic wheels.
the engine and tranny bolted together for my Honda is light enough that two people can pick it up and carry it.
