My reason to build such a small and 'George Jetson' styled craft is mostly for "Because I can".

I want something that when I'm stopped for gas or food I get delayed for 20 minutes answering questions about Fuel Efficiency and Global Warming Impacts.

But 3 times a year I leave the Seattle area and ride about 600 miles to do Family stuff. My Burgman 650 scooter does this trip just fine but it gets 54 MPG @ 70 MPH and the wind buffeting can get too much at times.

This will be a "Billboard" of sorts. The paint job will be BRIGHT but it will have US ARMY "Still Serving" and DAV stickers all over. I am a 20 year retired US ARMY and 60% non-combat Disabled. After the Army I worked for GTE/Verizon/Frontier 18 years, retired, and then CenturyLink 4 months till I could not "Fake it till you Make it" any more. I was 42 feet up a telephone pole on my 'spike climbers' when Vertigo hit. It took me 10 minutes to climb down with my eyes closed, choking the pole with my safety belt. The new mandatory safety belts kept me from falling 42 feet.

My own thinking leans toward buildability. In this case, an open four-wheeler:

What would you do in order to have a provision for reverse?

A small electric 12 volt motor with a 3-4 inch wheel/tire on a lever and a push button. Pull the lever and it forces it onto the back tire. A Harborfreight 1200 pound winch with the cable drum removed works well.

Back in 1986 we used 2 Black&Decker 12 volt drill motors, one in forward and one in reverse. Replaced the chuck with a 2 1/2 inch tire. 1 drill motor on each side of the split two piece aluminum wheel. It would move the 300 pound trike back but not fast. Had to let the drill motors cool down after 15 seconds of backing up hill.

As in any heavy motorcycle, you learn to park so you don't need to back up.

I need 15 posts before I can post any pictures

The clay model is awesome, maybe a tad too much down-force with that ducktail.

Re-posting some images from that link.
