BYD: ICE thermal efficiency of 46.06%

BYD seems to be making serial hybrid cars with a direct to ICE coupled top gears.
That means the ICE runs at it's most efficient rpm most of the time, except when cruising where the losses involved in changing ICE rotational motion into electricity then back into rotational motion is less efficient.

They also do about all the things mentioned here like grille blocks and replacing the 12 volt lead acid battery with lithium to make cars capable of "2.9 liters per 100 kilometers on a depleted battery."

Amongst the tricks used to create such an efficient ICE is a compression ratio of 16 to 1.
"cooling experiments" were involved in getting the compression ratio that high.
Cooling experiments? They do talk about high efficiency heat pumps coming as standard.
Could they be using these to cool intake charge and still come out ahead?

I wouldn't be surprised to find Somender Singh 'unicorn' grooves in the head as well.

Here's the link to ignore

I see a reasonable amount of BYD serial-hybrids in my hometown, yet I wouldn't hold my breath for such claim about the thermal efficiency.

Honda also resorts to a similar setup for its current generation of hybrids AFAIK.

LOL! Good point redpoint.
My daughter is in China.
Everyone believes Covid came from 'The West' and that The White Tailed Deer is somehow involved.

On the other hand the rest of the world cant believe just how fast China builds things!

As most all the tricks used here are stock in their cars they remain interesting:
"...In addition to the new system’s efficiency, BYD is also working toward reducing fuel consumption by optimizing other vehicle components. For example, BYD replaced the lead-acid battery in the Qin L and Seal 06 with a 12-volt lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, saving 0.1 liters of fuel.

BYD even adjusted many details of the vehicle body, such as active air intake grilles, low drag calipers, and ultra-low rolling resistance tires, all aimed at reducing wind resistance, improving efficiency, and increasing range..."
Other manufacturers should be worried IMHO.

Do they believe the research moved from Ft. Dettrick, MD, because the safety standards in Wuhan were lax/lacking?

I'm glad that the Pangolins are exempted. I like Pangolins.

Off Topic:
No idea freebeard.
I know/knew the very easy cure for Covid, so really didn't/don't care about the subject any further than that.
(This counts for just about every virus we're scared of. They all have a lipid bi-layer...)

(Anyone who wants to get into that subject and just staying young/healthy in general can find me and other very well informed people on Longecity.org.
There is a somewhat hidden way to register for free.

Oh ye: You keep confusing Carbon C60 talk from me as an excuse to go down a structural engineering rabbit hole: It's not THAT rabbit hole:
When lab rats 'youth-live' twice as long after imbibing this stuff only for the 1st half of their lives; I/we get INterested!
Especially if not one cancer cell can be found during autopsy.
So ye; I, and many others, take C60 dissolved in GOOD Olive Oil and/or some other oils.
It's the other one of 2 'miracle' things that have REALLY! impressed me)
