I set do not disturb hours on my phone, so I don't hear calls at night. Mostly I need to answer calls during the day since my business and personal phone is one and the same. I've never had a personal only cell.

Is there an app to answer the phone with that which the fax says?

At some point I answered to see if I could get the calls to stop. When I answered, the other person asked why I had called...

What I get (0-3 times/day) is I pick up and say hello, after a 5-6 second pause two clicks and ensuing silence. If I wait 20 seconds or so, there is a tone and a voice says, "Your call couldn't be completed as dialed. Please hang up and try again."

It sounds like a similar mechanism.

Being in the ministry I unfortunately can't turn my ringer off at night. If someone breaks down on the interstate at 2 am and calls me I'm obliged to go help them: so I have to hear my phone so I can answer it.

Since all they get is a time-stamped voice recording, I prefer to think that they're just checking to see if I'm still consuming oxygen. And maybe my state of mind.

Else, it's just a glitch in the matrix that connects random strangers (warranted or not) like those voice assistants.
