VAG diesil mpg display

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, been looking around for a while. Brilliant site.

I have a 1999 Ford Galaxy, with a 1.9tdi VW engine, unfortunately it does not run OBDII instead it run VAG's own software. Is there any way of getting a display similar to a scangauge for my car? Or has anyone made one before?

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy!

First of all welcome to the forum!
Regarding your question. As far as I know VAG ECUs have pin fir FE display and you can connect MPGuino to it as I did in Berta. And you can connect Scan Gauge or UltraGauge as well using OBDII port. FORD OBD

The tdi's do run OBDII you might have just not connected when doing your conversion.

Thanks for the information hopefully i can come up with something from that,

The Ford Galaxy came fitted with the VW tdi as the car was a joint venture with VW, so its not a conversion, and in the uk they didn't force makers to run OBDII till alot later, something like 2006 IIRC.

Now all i need to do is read up on how to make one of these MPGuino and program it. Should be fun

Just make sure that you have correct ECU number and pinouts before you'll connect anything.
If you'll need any info on MPGuino I have some experience so feel free to contact me.

Thanks very much,

I've been doing some research on the instruments for my car and found i should be able to retro fit the mpg display into my car and I know with VAGcom you can adjust MPG it displays by percentage to correct it to show the real MPG, so when i get some time i will have a look to see if all the wiring is there to make it all work

I had the same situation with Berta, because BMW provides OBC (On Board Computer) which shows you many data from the car like average speed, range, fuel consumption etc. But I've decided to use MPGuino. Why? It's simple - I'm a DIY person and I love the open source project that i can change on my own. I can add any code I like to it and get new features in a matter of minutes, hours, days. And after putting Guino into an instrument cluster it just more convinient to use it without looking away from the windscreen to the usual place where OBC is installed.
