Carputer thoughts

I've been trying to put together something in my head... I want a lot of features, as well as future expansion options, in my car. For instance...

-Record front and rear video
-Replace rear view mirror with small LCD monitor (video feed from rear camera)
-GOOD GPS capabilities
-Possible side mirror replacement with cameras/LCD monitors
-Perhaps live engine data recording (graph out what my scangauge does, basically)
-Connect and sync data to a NAS device wirelessly upon getting home
-Mobile tunes libraries, videos, etc.

I'm sure there are plenty more, but the first two would be my #1 purpose behind all this.

I've built more computers than I can count (Use to be an overclocker, you go through a lot of components!), but never have done one specifically for the car. With technology to the point that even a watch can have a computer in it, I figured it's probably time to start investigating my options.

I'm sure I can source either parts or pre-build computer for a basic 12v computer. From there, I'm not sure what OS to use (some small linux I'm sure).

From there, not sure what the best route for cameras, LCDs, etc. are. Theres a billion various ones out there!

So, curious... anybody put anything like this together?

(Edit: Googling around, I see a bunch of different projects, such as http://www.engineering-diy.blogspot....13-update.html)
