So you unplugged it and plugged it back in again?

Essentially. Only unplugged the motor though, which is just hot, neutral, and ground.

You DID do the traditional computer turn it off then turn back on method of repair.

I did do that dozens of times with the prior board, and this new one, too.

Like I said, now that I know how to diagnose down to the very component if something isn't working right, I'll never encounter the problem again.

One of my smart plugs has the ability to alert me if a certain energy usage threshold is reached. I might set that up so that if the vac turns on while away for days, it will alert me and I can switch it off.

Either that, or I just set an "away" routine that just turns that outlet off.

My automation is getting pretty extensive. At various times in the morning, the following happens;

Ceiling fan turns on low
Fireplace turns on
Instant hot water heater turns on
Coffee brews
Kitchen lights turn on
Music turns on

I've got routines that turn things off if they happened to get left on at midnight, including closing the garage door if it was left open.

The Chinese will probably turn my deep freezer off one day, and that will be the first signal they are preparing to attack.

Moving enough hardware and personnel across the ocean means you're looking at least 3 days advance notice before invasion. Nukes are at most 26 minutes using rockets.
