Changing body work to improve aerodynamics?

Recently I've been looking more and more at the aerodynamics of my car and it had me wondering about changing the body work on it. Mainly the front bumper.

I circled the areas I would change by filling them in and making them flush with the rest of the bumper

My thinking is probably flawed, but it seems like the air would go around the car smoother if it wasn't being forced into 4 pockets first. What do you guys think?

.

Did you see this...???

The video at the 1:58 mark shows a similar placed hole being important for wheel airflow.

Are they holes or pockets ?

On mine they are completely solid. No airflow going through

Looks like the vid is the new body style

Even for the old style, if they are shaped like pockets with a solid backing, they will be forming their own circulating air cushion that's designed to push air outboard of the front wheels.

Note that most manufacturers nowadays have abandoned the circular foglight holes for square ones or holes with a tall vertical element in front of the wheel well, for just this effect.

You'd be better off doing a partial grill block... especially seeing as how the Mustang's grille and hood form a gigantic parachute... :D

Have you looked at http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...per-30070.html?

Working with only the bumper and a grill block he was able to gain 0.04 on the Cd.

I've seen that also. And I've done the grille block thing. I'm just curious if filling in the 4 pockets that I circled would help or not

I'm not even sure why ford added those 4 pockets, except for fog lights on certain v6 trims and the gt/cs trim. But even with those fog lights, they only use the top pocket

Seems like it would've been better to use round fog light pockets like they do on the roush and the gt500

I see them as a style element pulled from the 1970 Mustang front end mixed in with a Shelby style front end. ( I love that design )

I'm guessing that filling the pockets will do little to nothing for the aero. If anything, they might serve as an air curtain.

If you do fill the area, you could use a clear lexan material like that used to fill the light sockets on the Viper GTS.
You have a really nice looking car.

(Viper GTS - man what a fine looking machine !)

Who just made fog light covers? I thought they looked great, except for the tape!
