Thread extracted from an off-topic thread
The Patient: SkuttleButt, a 96 Ford Taurus sedan. The Ailment: Leaking upper transmission line (right at the nut). The Symptoms: Requires about 2 gallons of transmission fluid a week. More or less depending on actual driving use. Examination Done: Visual examination with futile attempts of wrenching. Current Treatment: Drinking plenty of fluids. Quote:

What the devil is standing between you and fixing the dang thing???

I get an allowance from my wife. I'm only allowed to spend that much a paycheck.
Right now you might say http://members.lovingyou.com/images/smilies/bash.gif or http://members.lovingyou.com/images/smilies/doh.gif but to be honest, it's a GOOD thing that i'm on an allowance system. Or else we'd be in the poor house. I have brains with money, but she has the restraint that i don't have. |
Where's the "brains" in pouring tranny oil all over the place?!?
You could have had that thing fixed ten times over by now for the price of the oil you've wasted. Don't look for any goop, slop, tape, stickers, mantras, or anything other than a REPLACEMENT LINE. It ain't rocket surgery and it ain't gonna get better by itself. As Dilbert would say: "GAAAAAAAAAA!!!" |
math is not my best subject

Doing the math: g=gallon w=week $=duh 2g x 104w x 6$ = $1248 I have to agree with Frank on this one. Almost. The shop My friend owns would have charged $225 for the repairs. Provided it is actually a cracked line. $150 parts + $75 labor. I asked him. so you could've had it fixed 5.5 times by now. OR Fixed it once and had $1000 left over for one Heck of a Bowl Party. or, buy a used forklift, used Metro, and related parts to build your EV. On a different note; I understand the need for an allowance. Some of us,(me too:o) have trouble with self control. I try whenever possible to justify with figgers, my need for a new tool or part or whatever. Hence I have no SG, yet. But I'm working on it. Can't use it on a 93 Metro, SWMBO won't change driving habits. Period. 2 speeds: Haulass & Stop. Thank God for ABS. "Smell that--- that's the smell of goood brakes," "?Smell It? I'm sittin in it" I haven't made my point with the numbers yet. However I may be able to make it using my daughters car and boosting her mpg. I have to figure fuel savings over initial cost over years to recover funds. So Fix it already. I'll shut up now. S. |
Take no offense here please , but does your wife work in upper management?
We have the same problem at work and its been goin on for yrs. We go thru a 330 gallon tote of hydraulic oil,in at the max every 10 days because 2 machines manage to empty it out every 8 hrs. You might say recycle but where they are leakin it mixes with the coolant and produces large amounts of tramp oil in the coolant,(another problem). Don't know why but they just don't seem to think its worth the money to send maintenance over there to fix it. BTW I think you could have bought the line and the line wrenches for the cost of 2 weeks of tranny oil at that rate. |

-Transmission Leak -No breaks (ok, maybe 10% of what they should be.) -Oil Leak (sorta fixed) -rear of the car has been shorted 2 feet (but only in the middle, damn gas pole) -2 power windows don't work. -Dash lights don't work. (well, one does. It says "Check Engine". I checked, It's still there.) -4 different brand and size tires (only 3 are bald though!) -Dead headlight (ok, it's not the bulb. it's the mount. this causes the light to vibrate and burn out about every two weeks) -on a good day it shifts in both OD and D. on a normal day it only shifts in OD. -There was a fire under the hood before i bought it so No insulation under the hood. (don't slam the hood down too hard - it'll short the battery) -Radio was stolen. now it's a 2AAA batt hand held radio. -When the breaks are working don't stop too fast - the back seat will fly up and hit the back of the front seats. -When you turn, the power steering says "Yes! No! Yes! No! Yes! No!" and tugs at the wheel in a pulsing type fashion. that's off the top of my head... as you can tell i don't really know that much about cars. |
Spelling either
