Kaboom!

Quote:
In another push to reduce harming emissions, China will effectively ban the local production of a total of 553 passenger car models starting from January 1. The announcement was made by the China Vehicle Technology Service Center, Bloomberg reports, and affects vehicles that don't meet the country's fuel consumption and emissions requirements.
We don’t know the full list of banned cars, which has been complied by the same organization, but it includes models from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Chevrolet, Volkswagen, and many more. According to the publication, vehicles with internal codes FV7145LCDBG (Audi), BJ7302ETAL2 (Mercedes) and SGM7161DAA2 (Chevrolet), all of them sedans, are affected by the sanction. ...

None. All are Chinese cars, except for the brand name.

Wouldn't it be easier to just fit an emissions-compliant engine instead of simply phasing them out? But anyway, maybe it has more to do than simply emissions, since many outdated overseas models remained on production in China for their domestic market, and became clearly disadvantageous when it comes to safety too.

Wouldn't it be easier to come up with a line of adequately clean engines and say "If your motor pollutes more than this, you need to use ours instead?"
When I read they were banning dirty cars, I thought of this:

Are you suggesting the People's Republic of China might have ulterior motives other than those stated?
I'll believe it when I see it. Unfortunately, what we see is carefully selected by their propaganda dept.

Is it just fantasy?
That is a Chinese car and a German-brand bike, but made in China.
For all that I know, the bike cost more than the car.

553? I'm surprised even China has that many models to slash! Unless, maybe, they are counting each variation of model based on different engine and/or trim.
There aren't that many different models for sale over here, let alone that many available to slash.
