Completely. My dad used to tow up to 2000 lbs of sand/gravel with a 2CV. 3500 lbs total for 29 hp ! On short distances, mind you.

@OP : The fact that you gained by fairing the bike shows that it has an impact on drag. It's visible on the picture, only the lower part of the bike is protected by your trunk.

I tow a 750lb teardrop camper with my Civic hybrid and get about 30MPG in 4th gear at 60. I think I can do better if I can figure out a way to better streamline the trailer, whether through airdams on the car, a nosecone on the trailer, and/or a boattail on the trailer.
