Would you be mounting this mirror on the door, or as was once done for
English sports cars, out front on the fender, like this:

For the sake of discussion, since the on-the-door location is usually associated
with mirror/A pillar air flow constriction/redirection with increased drag, would
out on the fender be a better location?

I know that outside of any aero considerations, moving the mirror forward
like that has some special issues:
* the cone of vision it provides is much smaller
* you have to get out of the car to adjust the mirror
* moving your head side to side won't move the vision cone very much,
like it does with either center mount or door mount mirrors
* possible vibration issues
* driver side line of sight interference by A-pillar
* much more likely to be vandalized/inadvertently damaged
(I guess it's easy to see why this position has fallen out of favor.)

My question is, what would be the best position based solely on aerodynamic
considerations?

Oh I was just gonna bolt those bad boys right up to the stock lower A-pillar location. My subaru might as well have ciderblocks for side mirrors.

Zerohour -

That's actually a decent price. It seems like stuff like that can go for $100 a piece.

Bullet mirrors only go on the doors, those on the TR are not bullet ones.

That price is cheap, you may find some cheaper on ebay.co.uk but they tend to be lower quality. Rimmers are OK to deal with (I have an MGB GT and have loads of bits from them).

PS - we have a merkin friend coming over end Oct / November time. If you want to save package I can maybe package them up with her, if not too heavy - she likes Kit Kats...

...my 1965 Plymouth Barracuda Formula-S didn't have outside mirrors when I bought it (nor backup lights!), so I installed one of those bullet mirrors from PepBoys as I recall.

If you're not particularly married to the bullet mirror idea, but just want what is probably as low or lower drag outside mirrors, check into eBay motorcycle mirrors, as cheap as ~$20-30/pair including shipping.
