The real cost of ownership. Tesla Model 3.

"If you're trying to save the environment, get off your high horse and buy a used car!" *laughing emoji*

Thought this video was pretty funny. I've experienced some of these issues as well with extreme heat or cold with my various batteries.

Thoughts?

That was a real eyeopener. I had no idea that the electric car drained so much energy just sitting still. I wonder if that is a function of battery characteristics or the static load from all the computers etc.

At the price per mile being cited, my Mazda is half as expensive in 50F and a third as expensive during the winter.

Whoa there, Reddi.

Of course, the per-kilowatt cost in NYC is much higher than the countryside, but with gas heading towards 99 cents per gallon lately, the electric vehicle is shorting out.

Tesla forums provide simple ways of minimizing what they call "vampire" energy draws. It seems the guy in the video is not doing anything to minimize draw during down time.

I stopped the video after too much Musk and "luxury car" commentary. It seemed aimed at middle schoolers.

Yeah, he's a potty-mouth little Musk fanboy for all the wrong reasons, but I wanted to hear an owner's take on the cars. I'm thinking he's not quite as objective as he stated.

I would not discount his objectivity just because he's not jumping through some hoops in order to mitigate vampire loads that equate to 20 miles of lost energy per day or whatever they are.

After all, the guy owns two of them. He must know what's going on.

If it's a simple matter to adjust some settings to knock that vampire load way back and people don't do it, I think that's on them. But if it's not simple or practical...

Tech overload is one reason (besides the cost of admission to this party) why I haven't been interested in Teslas enough to even really research them. The only tech I want in my vehicles is about what Geo Metros had, and even they could do without DRLs, disc brakes, and stereos for all I care.

What are those loads, and how do you minimize them?

So an electronic gadget comes with every bell and whistle enabled by default. Not really a scandal.

So an idiot complains because he's too busy filming reaction videos to RTFM, or even explore a "settings" screen. Not really a surprise.
