Cross country trip in a beetle with a trailer

Only about 3500 miles each way, I was gonna remove the passenger seat and make a bed, maybe enough room left in car for seating. Cover sunroof with a big screen for nights. Doable. But I would like my ATV with me, I don't know if there is an efficient way of trailering it. It's "boxy"

My 1971 Superbeetle has an L-shaped deck and a single driver seat. Six feet from the front bulkhead plus storage on the driver's side. No sunroof but I have welding rod curtain rods for the back windows.

So it's doable. Do you have a trailer hitch?

No trailer hitch, but I would like one. Going to be so far off the normal routes I would rather have an atv to ride back to civilization

I was even looking at teardrop trailers to convert into a toy hauler but they're stupid expensive

VW TDI towing

The Jetta TDI, of which the New Beetle shares it's mechanicals, can tow a 19-foot Airstream RV trailer and get 30-mpg ( US ) on the highway, vs 55-mpg 'solo'.
So, technically, if your ATV was enclosed inside an Airstream-esque enclosure, of no greater frontal area, and weight, physics indicates that you could have an expectation of observing the same 30-mpg.
