I just came back from San Fransisco after a nice vacation .. no issues either direction due to areo-mods .
BTW the trip MPG was 60.2 without even trying to save, just enjoying the drive

I've seen several comments about having a car dismantled and not put back together... no officer has the right to leave your vehicle in a heap of parts, and they would be open to civil action if they did.

If they're tearing your vehicle apart, then the drug dog has found something and you're going to jail anyways.
I've crossed the border many times. The worst they've done is take 2 minutes to rummage through a suitcase and dawdle enough behind the counter to make it take 30 minutes... but that was with a passenger.

Best to leave all the illicit contraband, oranges and the such home for this trip.
Bible on the dash and a blank smile will help also.

She does get a little more attention than she'd like sometimes...
She and her sister were driving their own VW in the rally that year across borders, a convertible bug 'Tribute Car' painted to look like the 1969 Indianapolis 500 Pace car. No surprising, they got asked to pull over and go in the building as well.

Add a burger to the bits you want them to look at, as a distraction.
