Cruise control mod idea

How about a simple cruise control that holds throttle position, not speed. It would be simpler than a regular cruise control. It would be like a throttle lock, but it would disengage if the brake is pressed. Also the manual control, could bump up or down the throttle position. It can be dumb as a stump. It doesn't need to monitor anything like speed or rpms I don't think. I think it can just hold the cable at the set position, period. Then if you want to bump it up, it pulls the cable just a little more. If you want a little more trottle, you bump it a little more.

Someone could probably modify an junked cruise control.

Seem reasonable?

the simple old school way is a foot feeder block, a device that you use to hold the throttle where you want it .. basjoos has one in his civic.. Ill be adding one for my crx before our trip this year.. 3000 miles to Texas and back.. hopefully on under 50 gallons of gas:)

JC Whitney used to offer one way back in the early 80's. A friend installed one on his VW bus. As i recall, it was a real simple mechanical device that attached under the accelerator pedal, to the linkage, and had a cable up on the dash. When you tapped the gas pedal, it disengaged I think.

If you come up with one, let me know, I'd be interested, too.

In hilly terrain you'll be going slow up hill then flying down hill! Might work in northern IN and abought all of KS and other flat states

A simple hand throttle can be made for this purpose...you use an old fashioned hand operated choke mechanism that consists of a notched lever attached to a cable and mounting system that would hook up to your choke, but in this case you hook it up to the thottle linkage...can be bought at most car parts places.

I have no traditional CC. I use a threaded rod witha foot piece that captures the gas pedal and a finger which captures the edge of the dash. Turning the threaded rod increases/ decreases the speed. I've been using it for a cuople months without any problems.

I think you'll find some good info in this thread:http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...trol-2637.html

Yes, That has some very good info. My threaded "stick" is the 2nd generations of the one mentioned there.

I like that threaded stick technique. I'll definitely look into something like that.

No offense, but I was thinking of something a little cleaner, more OEM-like than a stick...

I am guessing the basic guts of a cruise control are probably fairly simple. I wonder if I can pick up a fried one cheap? The motor part would need to work at least.
