The CRX doesn't have lean-burn. The HF gets its mileage the old-fashioned way: Small displacement, light weight, and tall gearing.
Cruising speed should be as slow as you think you can go in 5th gear. If you're over 2000 RPM, you're definitely going too fast!
My Si has much shorter gearing (3000 RPM at 60 MPH). By slowing down to 50 MPH on the freeway when it is safe to do so, I have gone from 30 MPG average to 41 MPG average over the past three years. Oh, and the last tank was 46 MPG.
