Cylinder deactivation
I drove a chevy silverado for work last summer. I spend a couple hours a day in it and learned how to keep it in v4 mode most of the time. It would stay in v4 until you got down to 20 mpg and then would go v8 and the mileage would hit single digits. The mileage gains were very impressive while in v4 mode.
Most of the guys at work averaged about 14mpg in it. I was usually able to keep it above 24. It dipped to 18 ish when pulling the skidsteer. The mpg numbers were in the 30's and even 40's when in v4 mode. It would be awesome to make it stay in v4 mode longer. Maybe down to 10 mpg before v8 kicked in. They really kick themselves in the butt with the way they program these things. There is no point getting one when another truck could average 20+ on all cylinders.
How do you get these things to stay in v4 mode?
