Diesel Camry

We recently got an 89 Toyota Camry with the rare diesel engine. The good part, it was free, the bad part is it has leaky injectors which can be a pricey fix and we are working on getting it up and going. I cant find much info on the diesel Camrys so not sure what kind of mileage to expect out of it, any ideas? Any ways once we get it going should be fun to see what we can get out of it and then see what kind of mods we can do to increase, wish us luck. Ill keep you guys up dated once we get it up and running good.

Very interesting find. Any idea what the engine code is?

Leaky injectors could simply mean a leaky seal.
I had one injector seal replaced recently (on my Volvo).
The seals themselves were dead-cheap, it was the labour involved that made it expensive.

So the first step is to find out if it's really the injector, or just its seal ...

This is the single diesel Camry of comparable vintage I found on spritmonitor.de is doing 34 mpg in real life :
spritmonitor.de/en/detail/202780.html

spritmonitor.de/en/ is a good source to check for real-life European fuel consumption figures.

(forum software won't let me post proper URLs as my message-count is too low, so please add the www part yourself ;-) )
