Diesel fired coolant heater Hydronic D5WSC Water Heater Non plug-in preheater.

I've read oilpan4 build link inspirational. The 5kw only helps when the frozen motor is running(can add a 12v pump @aproxamitly 125usd) and a has a 220v plug aka only works at home(this would cost aproxamitly $200 to install a 220v plug out in drive way) or .000005% of other places . That was fine when I lived in Washington/Portland. Now in Montana, having a failed cold start in the woods can be fatal. You are the one who inspired me to dive into setting up non plug-in pre heater as many communitys in Montana are off-grid. The 5kw block heater would require very expensive solor /battery upgrades , I live in town now but plans are in the works for moving to the country. Plan ahead...
Ordered this :

D5wsc 24v manual ,pdf.

Eberspacher Hydronic D5WSC Water Heater 24v | eBay and a 12-24v dc-dc converter $500usd.
Aready had a battery isolator (was to set up a dual battery/ alternator disable system on a previous gaser) , I will be adding a 2nd battery to preserve the starting battery, and give self jump capabilitie.

Any suggestions on additional tags?

Pros
.10gal/hr diesel 3A 24VDC 72W =5KW Hydronic heat + residual ehxsost heat under hood. Most report operating temperature reached in 15min =.025ga fule 18Wh

Will report my actual

During summer the additional battery will allow a altnator disabling switch.

At home I can just plugin a 5A 12V 60w battery float charger at night to avoid 2nd battery.

Can run multiple heating elements ( trans cooler from wrecking yard add a 12 V 5W fan for cab heat parked engine off)

Nomore waiting for heat after a snowshoeing hike.

Cons:
Price 1800usd new with instalation kit got for $500 Ebay
If I can maintain my summer milage ROI should be short.

Extra battery $100+isolator $94 ( needed any way a single battery is almost not enough with 750W stock blook heater pluged in over night @ -30 took 30min idle and 18mi to reach thermostat opening temp).

Cannot be run inside a "tightly sealed grange "
For now not a problem as I have street parking.

Original idea was an instant hot water heater running propane and a 12V pump. Theas heaters are flow activated. So a check valve/isolation solenoid would be needed to prevent heater activation from the engine.

Dreem big chisel down to reality.

I've only read the first page of the other thread.

EVTV like the ceramic heater in the Chevy Volt; I think it heats water and not air. The link points to blog posts and videos about controlling it with an Ardiuno.

OEM parts available in your nearest junkyard. I forget what they pay, maybe one-fiddy.

That kind of looks like the small Diesel fired air heaters we use in our trucks to dry out our tools. They are also used to heat sleeper units on semi trucks, so they don't have to leave the big Diesel running for heat at night.

That is exactly what this is the Hydronic/ hot water version. Mt 5.9 isn't exactly a big diesel. But old technology, with no computer to help by programming a warm-up sequence.

There should be a military version for the hmmwv, taken from surplus they should be dirt cheap but it's going to be 24v powered.

Gold standard item. Hard for me to justify cost in south central US, but it's the right way to go, short of a similar and cheaper substitute.

Webasto, Bosch or Eberspacher also makes those. Popular here in the North

Webasto is what we have at work, troublefree heat.

The Eberspacher unit I ordered is a 24V . My truck is 12V so to solve this problem this was also ordered :Waterproof DC 12V to 24V 3A 72W Step-up DC-DC Converter Regulator Boost Module @Power Regulators & Converters

Where were and witch modle the HMMWV with the aux heaters were used in?
. I was stationed at Ft Riley, KS . The only cold start aid was Either and it was on 5Ton and up. No block heaters . I was responsible for 3 5-tons 2 HMMWVs all but 1 5ton would crank up @ -15 without Either ,just double glow (cycle glow plugs ,turn off, cycle glow plugs , start a trick I learned on tired 285,000+ mi Uhaul ford E/F 350 trucks they needed doble glow at +29°f) some of the insert boxes (ambulance, macanical, Como) had auxiliary heat for stand alone use with out the truck .
