Ya OCC, that is all a 94Volvo TPS does. it tells engine to idle. I figure it is using the o2 sensor to tell injectores what to do. SC

the closed throttle switch (idle switch) enables
DFCO if the conditions are right
and
enables base ignition timing to be set when closed
and
when closed
informs MR computer to control idle speed with ign timing and or changing on time for the pulse width for the IAC if the system has and IAC

if the TPS has an idle switch it also has a WOT switch which informs MR computer the system is in
WOT
when the switch changes state

the 02 sensor is a feedback sensor and has such has limited authority to regulate injector on time
swag about +/- 25% from the MAP (not MAP sensor) in closed loop
no authority over ign timing

but

the MAF sensor is the primary load sensor and it has the greatest amount of control of injector on time AND ignition timing

disconnecting MAF also sets IGN timing to a value that can not cause engine damage no matter what the possible load is
and will consistently cause FE to UN improve not improve .

disconnecting the MAF on any system is always a very bad idea
