Ecocar II Challenge ??
EcoCAR 2 challenge won by Ohio State University
I haven't noticed any posts about this but after seeing the challenge although what the team did was interesting some aspects of what made a winning car I disagree with. (cough... their focus seemed to be on tech in a platform not the platform itself)
Is anyone here familiar with this paticular challenge?
I was surprized to see it pop up all of a sudden.
Thanx
Ryan

To protect my best interests, the local media must have deemed the EcoCAR2 Challenge unworthy of mention.
In an age of unlimited communications it's comforting to know that some professionals are watching my back.'cause, you know,I've never, ever, been interested in fuel economy issues.
Oh! Dancing with the Stars is coming on,Gotta go!
Thanks for the heads up.

weeklong competition
I spent a little time attempting to learn exactly 'WHAT' the EcoCAR2 weeklong competition consisted of.
My navigation didn't produce much.
But it looks like a Chevy Malibu will get 50 mpg without any 'load' changes.
That might be 'Arthur Anderson' mpg.Don't exactly know.

I was able to find more information at their website @ ecocar2[dot]org their official website. The competition is focused at reducing the environmental impact of a Chevrolet Malibu without compromising performance, safety and consumer acceptability (according to their website). This was the third year of the program, which is focused on 99% consumer buyoff. It seems a few teams developed high-tech features like center stacks and aerodynamic qualities. A lot of teams swapped components, like motors and energy storage systems, in the Malibu. One of the teams even beat the stock vehicle time in an autocross course and came close to beating it in 0-60 MPH acceleration.
A lot of their information was on their blog or at their Facebook account at EcoCAR 2.

ChicagoGal,I was hoping that you had some insight into how the 'Lowest Petroleum Use' criteria were obtained at the competition.
So far,I can't seem to navigate to a site where the testing protocols are actually described in a scientific manner.
Thanks in advance for any help.

EcoCAR & Emissions Testing
The website seems it doesn't go into detail but I found a few YouTube videos that mention emissions and energy consumption. It won't let me post the URLs but their page is youtube/AVTCseries. The testing seems legit for college students.
The testing is based on an adaption of EPA testing with variations of drive cycles and using SEMTECH equipment.
