This thread reminded me of how terrible FB is, my astonishment at how well it did considering it sucked worse than all the competing online social websites, and the fact that it's destined to continue growing without serious competition because that's the nature of a big thing (to get even bigger). Then there's shadow banning and other shinanigans...
...makes me wonder if there's a way to launch a new social media platform and use FB-type tactics to make people think it's bigger than it is- like the opposite of shadow banning, where you give the illusion of there being people on there that aren't, or that you've got more friends and likes than you do. Build a fake large social network until it's actually large.
Anyhow, that's my million dollar idea for the day.

I'm talking another level, the kind that doesn't even have the veil of "don't be evil". Pure manipulation of basic human behavior and motivation, within the confines of the law.
While I'm not the type to rationalize such disregard for people, I would cheer the demise of FB.

That place is just a blatant publicly searchable database of private data without any apologies.
As for FB the government does use its information, it’s stated on the record, the issue would become to what extent

I think it is bizarre that people put so much flair (?) on their pictures, but their Facebook page looks just like everyone else's.
MySpace allowed all kinds of flair (?).
