Engine Block Heater For Short Trips?

I planned on getting one for the winter months anyways, But I'm wondering if I could/should use it on cooler mornings.

Right now I'm working two jobs, and one is 1.4 miles away, Not that far for it to get warmed up. Would it be better to use the block heater when its cooler out? at what outside temp would it be unnecessary?

My car idles down around 110F coolant temperature. At any temperature under that you'll see an improvement from using a block heater (aka year round). Of course, in colder months you'll see greater benefit due to the greater difference in temperature.

Most of us who have a block heater use it year round, only the plugin time lengthens as it gets colder.

1.4 miles? I guess you can't walk/bike?
