I heard the surviving EV-1's were disabled, whatever that means. The guy at a car history museum on "Who Killed the Electric Car" said it had to be done. So, I would be a bit surprised if they pop the hood for you. But maybe they disabled it by removing something small, like the controller.

I doubt they'd be sitting at exhibits with ????lbs of batteries in them. On the other hand, if their batts were removed, you'd see it in the suspension.

Remove the batteries, and replace with similar weight in lead?

Remove controller, leave controller casing?

Simple to do, and the car still appears intact..

Inspired by this thread, I watched the deleted scenes from "Who Killed the Electric Car?" and they had a section called "Hallowed Ground" which was the GM Advanced Technology Vehicles lot where you could clearly see two EV1s under car covers. The person interviewed mentioned there were "a handfull" left. They also had pallets and pallets of batteries. I would think the EV1s in that lot were not disabled, and probably just had the batteries pulled. And on a complete whim, I e-mailed a letter to President Obama asking that we mandate car manufacturers to produce electric cars just as California's Air Resource Board had done in the 90's. I know, crazy and pointless, but why not?
