EV efficiency maps

Yesterday I found this Finnish guy called Santeri Pöyhönen who had made a lovely chart of his Opel Corsa e consumption at different speeds and outside temperatures.

Ok this looks pretty much same as car engine BSFC maps. I was wondering if you add lines like the kWh/1c there will it look even more like the engine maps or not.

Anyway this is how every cars consumption should be showed. In my ID3 tests the consumption change was 0,1kWh/1c on summer conditions so it was little bit more efficient thant the corsa. But I tested on no wind conditions and those are average of 30000km or so.

Link to original post at Linkedin where is little more data how its gathered etc:

If you have a regular work route where you could drive different speeds you can make it yourself with little work. to see how your car compares.

A BSFC map only concerns itself with engine operating parameters and the fuel efficiency. There are similar electric motor maps, but they are much flatter, mostly varying only between 80%-95% efficiency.

As you point out though, it would be helpful if owners had access to some basic map showing what to expect at various temperatures and speeds. It could only be used as a rough estimate though, because there are lots of factors, like if someone preheated their car before they left, or headwind, which hardly anyone has access to that information.

Don't see much advantage to preheating an electric except for cabin comfort and battery efficiency. Dang hard to defrost the ranger window otherwise and range you lost to the cold isn't actually lost.
