High speed trains are more efficient than a VTOL-car, and they are faster as well! 200+mph is hard to beat. You won't get that out of a helicopter or small plane. Why is it that this country is so new, and yet we have all this legacy infrastructure we can't get around? Places like England, Europe, Japan and Korea are so far beyond us. Congress can't even decide if we would even want a high speed rail network.

All of our rails are tied into the freight network. While it makes for a pretty efficient way to move goods around, it is slow.

Fuel is so cheap in the US and the standard of living so high, who would use a high speed rail? If we are traveling cross country we jump on a plane. And if we have a shorter trip, we take the car.
