It WOULD be aerodynamically correct, however, there might be so much optical distortion introduced as to render it useless.
And unless hermetically sealed, could end up full of condensation, or ice, depending on dew points and ambient temperatures.
The SCCA racing mirrors with truncated plexiglass, open fairings, would be an attempt at a compromise.

Alternates would be on the front fenders, peep mirrors or those bus mirrors on stalks. Anything to get away from the A-pillars.
Check windshield-wiper zone of sweep before locating.
If the windshield glass between you and the mirror is obscured by rainwater you're 'backing up.'
