So far, stylists are toying with,and willing to continue the fastback roofline production into the future. Some examples are:

As we near the hundredth anniversary of the fastback, in 2022, we might take a moment to tip our hat to the memory of Paul Jaray, who put this anti-entropic technology on the map.

I like fastbacks with a full-sized hatch, as they can be as aerodynamic as some sedans while retaining a versatility more comparable to a station-wagon.

My ex-boss in the late 1980's had a fastback hatch Mazda 626 GT and loved it.

Aerohead, that list of future cars coming out is exciting. I looked a few up, "things are getting better all the time" as the Beatles once sang.

We'll have to see how and if consumers embrace them, and sales volume.
It's a certainty that designers know the fastback is the highest performance roofline in existence, but that doesn't necessarily translate to sales.
My brother installed a 50-amp charger for a client's wife's Tesla Model S. He owns, among other things, a McLaren Speedtail. Journalists couldn't have given this car higher praise. They liked the Rolls-Royce Wraith as well. But that same fastback roof on a Nissan Sentra might be met with journalistic hostility, citing 'wasted' headroom, 'wasted' interior volume.
The automotive universe remains a very weird and subjective place.

Even if both sedan and hatchback versions have the same lenght, headroom and most other dimensions are also identical, at least in 3rd-world countries such as Brazil the sedan is perceived as more prestigious even though in the end it may remain actually cheaper to manufacture. Ain't it quite stupid?

Please bear in mind that, with a proper fastback roof contour, the effective static pressure acting over the rear of the greenhouse is at the highest pressure of all roof profiles.
Some of the most expensive, 200-mph- plus fastbacks available on the market today, have no rear spoilers at all. They don't need any.
The present Rolls-Royce Wraith, Bentley Continental, Lamborghini Aventador/ Murcielago/ Huracan, 1978 Daimler-Benz, Mercedes-Benz C-111 III, and 2020 McLaren Speedtail would be worth a look.
