In the midst of this public flogging of a dead horse, here's a planetary thrust bearing:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:53451
(be aware that at ...?t=71 he shows a spool of filament with a free end. That's a big no-no)
Since the file on Thingiverse is parametric, I could print one with a 1" hex hole up to 8" in diameter. For my 25ft iron hex-bar shaft. VAWT on the top and my Fisher-Paykel washing machine motor on the bottom.
Proto-Pasta have bronze-PLA alloy. I think that that might make a self-lubricating part.
www.proto-pasta.com/products/bronze-metal-composite-htpla
It would probably take a $50 spool of filament with any decent amount of infill.

Yeah, I don't see how that's relevant to the topic.

I know. I didn't think it was worth a new thread.

Why do I even try? My hope was that someone would steer it back on track by saying "You know, a bronze-PLA alloy might have good performance in the differential gear required".
Who am I kidding. I wanted to terminate the thread with prejudice.

You don't learn a lot from looking at things you expect to happen as they do.
You can learn when something happens that you did not expect.
That is what attracted me to the whole Blackbird story.
Veritasium had a couple of perplexing physical situations in this video. They are more accessible than the Blackbird, that's for sure.

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "Eureka!" (I found it!) but "That's funny …". — Isaac Asimov. In 1997 a book titled "Comet Hale-Bopp: Find and Enjoy the Great Comet" was released, and the author credited Asimov with a variant of the quotation

I printed out the gear bearing shown at #121. My first print-in-place success. I injected it with tooth past and ran it in with a drill motor for about 4-5 minutes. A really rough needle bearing.
The only use I can see for it is as a fidget spinner.
edit: I got the first two right, didn't see the third one coming.

What happens if you drop a slinky?
A very short but funny experiment:
What happens if you hang out a slinky on one end until it is at rest, and then drop it?

A simple misunderstanding may be the case; Aerohead said late in the thread, "I wanted to stress the importance of scientific rigor."
But right at the start they dismissed it all as a "parlor trick". That definitely gives the impression they think it's just, well, a trick, rather than saying "I believe it's possible but they're not providing enough direct measurements and data to prove to an audience they actually accomplished it". So it feels to me like a misunderstanding of Aeroheads positions is understandable, and that posts of goals have been moved at least somewhat, if perhaps unintentionally.
Especially if it ends up being "there's NO way they can satisfactorily prove it to me via video".

Technically, it is a 'parlor trick' AKA unscalable scientific inquiry.
No way you'll move freight on the Interstate that way.
