Ferdinand Porsche RIP
Sorry to hear one of my favorite designer/engineers passed away today. He'll be sorely missed.

The first car I learned to drive a manual transmission on was a 70 VW Beetle. Loved that car to pieces. Broke my heart when Dad got rid of it. Most fun I ever had, even though it was slow as molasses. Sounded like you were going a zillion miles an hour when she was wound out.
I was 12 years old, great times.

Sorry to disagree here but someone who had a tank named after him by the Nazi murderers in WW II won't be missed by me.
Even Hitler wasn't that highly regarded.
Peter.

Get your Ferdinands straight; this one would have been 8 years old in '44.
P.S. 7 years old when that tank was built.

Let's not go there. Porsche long had a dream of building a "people's car" and Hitler shared that dream. Thankfully the Nazi party facilitated the research and development of the most popular car ever made. I am against the party itself as much as the next guy but you have to admit the car they developed changed the world for the better.

Guys, that particular "Ferdinand Porsche" (who designed a couple of tanks, and the "Peoples Car" that we know as the VW Beetle) died in the 1950s.
His son was also named Ferdinand Porsche, though he generally went by "Ferry". He died a decade or more ago.
This was his grandson, also named Ferdinand Porsche, who went by "Butzi" early in his life, and "F.A." later on.
If you're going to piss on someone's memory because of stuff his grandfather did, you might as well hang yourself for what your ancestors (and mine) did to the Indians, the Chinese, the Irish, the Africans, and so very many others.
