Fin5, a propellerless electric outboard motor
www.boatnews.com/story/44356/finx-test-fin5-a-propellerless-electric-outboard-motor
Quote:
The Fin5 is the first outboard motor from the young French company FinX Motors . After several years of development, the company has finalized the adaptation of its diaphragm technology from industrial pumps to boat propulsion. The distinctive feature of the Fin5 is that it has no propeller. Instead, the propulsion force results from the displacement of a flexible diaphragm by means of magnets, without any rotating parts or gears.

If the motor is as good as their video, Coanda should be proud.

Nice that we have zero information about how it works besides "flexible diaphragm by means of magnets".
Are we on the hunt for the Red October? Does Jack know?

That's on me, for not spending more time on the post. I'd watched these but didn't link to them:
I get the annular duct, but the 'high speed' version perplexes me.

Im interested in the life of the flappers. Cant see anything I know of that is flexible and tough enough for a bubba to not destroy backing out of the marina.
Could need a hubba exclusion

I don't see any performance numbers and that makes me skeptical.

FinX: Test Fin5, a propellerless electric outboard motor
Oct 24, 2023Testing the Fin5 on a tender . We tested the Fin5 in the basin of the Port des Minimes in La Rochelle, on a small 2.70 m Zodiac dinghy. With a power output of 2 kW, which the manufacturer compares to a 5-hp petrol outboard, the Fin5 weighs in at 20 kilos. Although this is starting to take its...

Fin5: the electric thruster-free outboard - Barche a Motore
Dec 29, 2022FinX will have a range. The Fin5, FinX's first product, is designed for 5 horsepower and is suitable for small boats such as rowboats, dinghies and sailboats up to 3 tons. The goal is then to reach higher power levels with the upcoming design of a 100 kW electric motor, equivalent to a 150 hp internal combustion engine.

FinX | Metstrade - Minisite
The Fin5 is the first finned boat motor in the world, without propeller, 100% electric and safe, 2kW (equivalent in thrust to a 5 HP engine). First FinX product, it is dedicated to small boats (boats and dinghies) and sailboats up to 3 tons. A true technological innovation, this new linear (non-rotating)...

100kw is only 136 hp using traditional formula
