You are aware that the individual cells in the packs aren't ordinary D cells, but special ones that will handle higher charge/discharge rates? Last I heard, they weren't available at retail.

These are the ones I found, from what I know about batteries they would be more than enough:

NiMH Rechargeable Cell: D-Size 1.2 V 8500 mAh (Flat top with tabs, 25A rate)

They need to be around 50 Amp charge/ discharge to work in an Insight.
