First Milestone

I recently started trying this hypermiling deal (a little into my last fillup). My last three fillups were about 31MPG each. I filled up today and broke 35MPG. I didn't set a milestone when I started, but I suppose that's it. That consisted of 3-100 mile round trips to Savannah (55MPH backroads, except for one-way was 70MPH interstate) in addition to about 70 miles city driving. I suppose my next goal is 40MPG. However, I did break 40MPG (42 and some change, actually), but that was 70MPH for about 250 miles. Surely 70MPH FE can't be better than 55MPH FE? Once I get my MPGuino dialed in, I'll do some testing. Although, I did notice higher relative FE (38-40 on the 'guino) at 70MPH than I did at 55 MPH (30-33 on the MPGuino). Keep in mind that's before I'm 100% certain on the calibration numbers. Thoughts?

42 mpg sounds a little high to me for 70 MPH. The vehicle isn't all that aerodynamic to start with so I don't see how it could putt that kind of a number with out aeromods. But I really hope that is teh real number because maybe then the FE around 55 mph might be even better.

Let us know when you get your MPGuino. Also there are a couple of other members here with teh same vehicle and see what/how they get good fuel economy.

This next tank, I'm going to stay on 55MPH backroads. Next tank I will stay on 70MPH interstate. My trip to Atlanta next month is around 200 miles of 70MPH interstate (with some slowdown through Macon) and then around 50 miles or so 55MPH backroads (with some slowdown through a few towns). I'll try to remember to put it in my fuel log notes and post here about my results.

Ok. I finished the tank. I stayed only on backroads. Most of the time top speed was 55MPH, but occasionally would get up to 60MPH on steeper downhill runs. Engine was off at longer red lights. I did some neutral coasting with engine on. No real change from last tank except an oil change about half tank. I got 36.46MPG this tank and 35.05MPG last tank... I'm liking the trend!
