First post - Wondered about online software for us and modding use

I wanted to ask if we at ecomodder have access to online software apps
that would help us choose the best designs in mods we make or buy.

I did post a Q. in Efficiency with a 2 Q. poll asking if anyone would use a
software online application for FEA (finite element analysis) which can be
used for everything from wind tunnel simulation to how something behaves
when you break or hit it.

I'm a scientist but I have some experience with engineers and their tools.
I'd like to have more experience. So I joined ecomodders to help with
what I can.. like materials suggestions or helping with design ideas when
people have problems with how something is performing electrically or
mechanically. My background is electronics and materials and optics.

Well anyway if you look at may 30 2010 date the post starts with 'Poll: "

I apoligize if we don't use polls. I don't but for a yes/no if anyone would
use an online applciation it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I'll be participating and want to make some electric vehicles. When I was
a kid my Uncle, the 'engineer' for a packing house he and his brother owned
made an electric minibike with a starter motor , battery and relay. It was
On / OFF and ran a long time before dying. He used it for the 1/2 mile
trip to the packing house instead of getting in the pickup.

Glad to be here.

Welcome to Ecomodder! I'm sure that with your background, your brain will get picked often.

I don't know of any online software we have access too, but there are a few spreadsheets floating around dealing with aerodynamic calculations and cost/benefit analysis.

Also, there's a site called Flow Illustrator that makes rough aerodynamic flow movies from an image you upload (such as a profile of your car).

Cheers!
