Check out the Garage. From there you can search for festivas and see what everyone is getting and what modifications they have.

Guys on the Festiva forum usually claim about 45 mpg for a standard tranny. Keep in mind that these days, most Festivas are running either 1.3L (stock) or 1.6L (Mazda) engines with usually 13 or 14" wheels. I still run 12's with a stock engine (1.3L) and an automatic transmission. I'll usually operate (tracked gas mileage) in the 36-40 range. So I believe the 45 claims.

My festiva is my daily driver and even with keeping up with 75 mph traffic on the highway I'm on the low end 40 and the high end 49. To bad that deal was 3 years ago. Hope you jumped on it. They're fun cars.

Welcome to the place where Festiva's get 60 mpg, people! Browse through Black Widow's page and enjoy! Any questions you have, just ask!

Don't be sad that the Black Widow is retired, it's only retired to me. My kid is getting around 50 mpg in it right now.

I used to average 47-48 driving fairly normally in mine when it was a stock 1.3/5 speed. Best was 53.

Switched to the 1.6 16v turbo/5 speed and averaged 36 I think, with a best north of 45.

Switched to the 1.8 16v turbo/5 speed and was lucky to get 30. At that point the car became a toy. Ridiculous power for such a small car.

Now I have one with the 1.8 16v, no turbo, but automatic, and can't hit 30 anymore.

Typically the stock automatic 1.3 cars will average 32-36 mpg. Maybe 40 mpg with some hypermiling. Just too many rpm's with no overdrive or lockup. The 5 speed is key to mpg.
