Thumbs up New belt design

Hi all, a new belt design is comming in 2012 that will (theory) have 10% less power dissipation in the accessory drive..

i think that i should mention it here.

If you want more detail, you should check that very good mag in england.

Engine Technology International p78

Thanks

Engine Technology International - January 2011

It says accessory drive accounts for 13% of an engine's frictional losses. They've reduced losses by using a more flexible material and a lower profile (thinner) design. I think it's kinda splitting hairs but hey, why not do it anyway if you can?

That's pretty cool, for ecomodders and horsepower junkies alike. Now people can add low drag belts to their mod lists.

I hope it will be made for old cars like mine. I think they are mostly targeting OEMs. If an engine is losing 13% to a traditional belt and these are 10% better, then that's 13%*10% => 1.3% improvement. The implication is that if one of us was getting 50 MPG at 35 MPH, we could get 50.65 MPG at the same speed.

^I don't think we can infer that. The engine would lose 11.7% to frictional losses instead of 13% with these belts but that doesn't translate to engine efficiency or even fe gains of that percentage...

Thanks for the correction. I'm just shaving percentages of percentages whenever I get the chance.
