Bypass NY legislators, allow Tesla to sell directly in the United States.
Elon Musk knows space, clean energy and his internet. He would use the social media to "help affect the future of humanity" and he would need all of our support. Sign the petition, I did.

Would someone explain why the Tesla is not approved for sale in NY state? Last I checked there has been provision to sell and register electric vehicles through the DMV. Is it just Tesla? We are trying to get electric bicycle legislation passed again this year.

I checked the Tesla website for the latest update. The NYS legislature closed Friday without passing bills that would prevent Tesla from denying franchises to multiline car dealerships. Tesla wants to sell only through Tesla owned outlets. It is basically a turf war issue.

Yup, it's not about electric cars--it's about direct car sales from the manufacturer to the consumer. The dealer networks will be bypassed, and they're not happy about it. So far, they're trying to convince the NY and FL (at least) legislatures to outlaw direct sales.
