If you get a 2 stroke, run it just hard enough to keep Mr Carbon from building up, but especially w a 4stroke, even if it's a small cc., and slow; if you don't operate at more than half the available rpm's, the machine will last and last....or maybe you just like the hassle of down time and rebuilding.
