Smile G'day from a Datsun Z nut.

Hi folks, I'm Pete and come from the Blue Mountains, just outside Sydney, Australia.
My daily driver is a 1988 Mitsubishi Cordia auto and my big boy's toy is a 1981 Datsun 280zx, also auto. I realise neither car is a practical basis for fuel economy mods, but that's what makes it fun!
I've used many of the Hypermiling techniques listed here for years, but am still working to improve my mental discipline, I'm a ratbag driver by nature.
I've got most of the bits for gearbox conversions for both cars but finding time to do it is the really hard part. I have a few mild engine mods already, but am keen on pushing fuel economy as far as practical.

Anyhow, as most of my driving is at highway speeds, I'll be pouring over the engine mods and aerodynamics threads for a while. If there are any drivers of older Japanese cars, I'd love to chat.
Pete.

Welcome. I have a 1978 280Z I drive on the road track, but it is still street legal. I put a ZX turbo engine in it, added bigger injectors and turbo, an intercooler and a 3" exhaust. I drag raced it for a bit and got a 12.8 @ 110mph up here at 5280' altitude.

I don't need to make it fuel efficient, although I get 29mpg driving at 70mph; I drive a VW diesel for fuel efficiency.

Thanks UFO.
I spend a lot of time on the peformance orientated Z sites. If you control your right foot, good performance often translates into good economy.
