Gen 2 Prius (coolant canister)

I am thinking of winterize my 08 Prius. This prius has a coolant storage thermos /canister. My idea was too use fiberglass exhaust wrap to go around the outside of the canister.

I think you would be better using that on the oil pan or manual transmission.

The canister is already vacuum sealed (its a can in a can). Insulating it further won't do much. Insulating the rubber lines to and from it will probably do more.

What do you suggest for the rubber lines?

I'd probably just go with the quality (rubberish stuff, not plasticy stuff) hot water pipe insulation. Its cheap and should hold up to the temperature it'll see.

Always check the "flammability" ratings of ANY non-automotive insulation(s) that you want to use...some will *melt* when gasoline/oil get on them; others, are temperature volatile (melt) at under-hood temperatures (engine blocks ~ 400ºF).
