Getting to 70 mpg e with a Ford C Max Energi

Since we bought our Ford C Max Energi on Nov 30th, 2016 we have been trying to improve the mpg's through figuring out what works best in driving strategy.

1: Drive in EV mode as much as is practical.
2: Switch to 240 volt charging reducing charging loses.

We finally made it to 70 mpg-e with a 72% EV cycle. Since we live more then 20 miles from town trips to town reduce this percentage dramatically. However during the week we have 9 mile round trips to the post office taking our son to his work drop off point and picking him up that increase our averages for EV driving dramatically.

How much EV only mode improves MPG averages is the best sale point for electric drive I know of. Without a hybrid drive train the car might only be capable of 32 mpg. With hybrid drive we can reach 40 mpg easily. However with a plug in EV only range I can routinely return averages of 60 plus mpg. With a higher ratio of EV driving (over 72%) we can reach 70 mpg-e.

In just EV driving the car can return over 100 mpg-ev discounting the use of any gasoline. These facts showcase the improved efficiency of the electric drive train over the internal combustion motor better then anything I can think of.
